The Media Complaints Committee received a complaint from Mr. Patrick Chitongo, a freelance journalist, over an article carried by The Mirror on 25th June 2015. Mr Chitongo alleges the Mirror wrote a ‘celebratory’ story on his arrest for allegedly publishing an unregistered newspaper. Mr. Chitongo says the newspaper did not follow-up on the initial court story it reported on, to inform its readers on his subsequent release.
Mr Chitongo argues that some reporters from the paper were aware of his subsequent release by police and therefore feels that the paper has an obligation to inform its readers on his release as readers may still believe that he is still in jail.

The VMCZ Media Complaints Committee has written to The Mirror over the matter and the newspaper is yet to respond.
