Mutumbwa, Mugabe and Partners brought the firm’s complaint against Star FM to the attention of the Media Complaints Committee (MCC) over an 8pm news bulletin carried by Star FM on 3 March 2015. The radio station, according to Mr. Mutumbwa, erred in reporting that, “Mutasa and Gumbo had filed a high court application in which they were represented by their lawyers Mutumbwa Mugabe and Partners.”
Mr Mutumbwa says the statement is incorrect as the law firm was never approached by the litigants in the matter. Mutumbwa and Partners are therefore seeking remedy in the form of an immediate and prominent correction of the story.
Status: Resolved
The case was resolved amicably between the two parties. The complainants, after visiting Star FM and listening to an audio recording of the bulletin in question, state they realised they had not heard properly as the lawyer cited in the news bulletin is Nyakutombwa and not themselves (Mutumbwa) as earlier indicated.
