Nature of Complaint
Mr Ashirai Mutirikwi Mawere through his lawyers Machiridza Commercial Law Chambers lodged a complaint via an email on 29 January 2023 with the Media Complaints Committee over an article published by The Masvingo Mirror on 25 January 2023. The lawyers, Machiridza Commercial Law Chambers say the article lied or misled and/or misstated Mr Mawere’s title. The lawyers say the article alleged that “Mr. Ashirai Mtirikwi Mawere a mere farmer is an aide to the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Innovation, Science & Technology Hon. R. Machingura” whose job title was a lie and/or misstated and/or misleading.
The lawyers, Machiridza Commercial Law Chambers demand that The Masvingo Mirror retract the story.
STATUS: Resolved
The Media Complaints Committee contacted The Masvingo Mirror editor Mr Mafirakureva over the matter and he indicated that a retraction and an apology were published following engagements with the complainant Mr Mawere. An apology to the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Hon. R. Machingura and a retraction were published on 31 January 2023.
