Photojournalist Lucky Tshuma brought to the attention of the Media Complaints Committee (MCC) of the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe (VMCZ) complaints against YaFM radio station, DailyNews, Technomag, HealZim, NewsDay and Studio 7 Voice of America, over the unauthorised usage of his images including pictures of public figures such as the late politician Dumiso Dabengwa and traditional leader Chief Felix Ndiweni captured on several, different occasions.
Lucky Tshuma says his engagement with the cited media houses on the matter has not resulted in a favourable outcome as the institutions have reportedly been non-co-operative or hostile in their response and he is therefore seeking the intervention of the MCC.
The complainant is demanding monetary damages as restitution.
Status: Dismissed
The Media Complaints Committee recused itself from handling the matter on the basis that the requested remedy of financial restitution falls outside the jurisdiction of the Committee. in light of the complainant’s demand for financial restitution. The MCC can facilitate the following remedies in instances where parties have been aggrieved by the media: an apology, a retraction, a correction and audience with the editor.
