Honourable Minister of Energy and Power Development D.C Mavhaire filed a complaint against the Zimbabwe Independent over a front-page news story published by the newspaper in its August 29 to September 4, 2014 edition.
Hon. Mavhaire over allegations in the article that he had directed parastatals under his Ministry in particular Petrotrade (Private Limited) and ZESA Holdings (Private) Limited to “dish out favours in the form of free fuel to and writing off of electricity bills of some members of an alleged political faction as he states that these are false.
Hon. Mavhaire is aggrieved as he says that these statements have the potential to subvert public confidence in public officials and state enterprises and state enterprises and that the newspaper should have first sought comment from the state companies involved.
STATUS: PENDING
The VMCZ has since written to the Zimbabwe Independent notifying the newspaper of the complaint and awaits the weekly’s response.
