The MCC received a complaint from Masvingo Town Clerk, Adolf Gusha, over a story published by NewZimbabwe.com on 28 March 2017 headlined, “Rhodesians own 90pct of Masvingo Council”.
The complainant said he never uttered the statements attributed to him in the story – adding that the story also did not state where he is alleged to have made the statements attributed to him.
Mr. Gusha said that the correct position is that the statements attributed to him were actually made by (a) Mr. Makhado of Masvingo Residents Association at the launch of the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) Masvingo Chapter.

The VMCZ contacted NewZimbabwe.com Editor Gilbert Nyambabvu who indicated that the site’s own independent investigations into the matter indicated that the statements were incorrectly attributed to Mr. Gusha. The editor also noted that it was not in dispute that such statements had been made (by a participant at a meeting). NewZimbabwe.com resultantly published an apology to the complainant on 10th May 2017.
