ZimRights Director Mr. Okay Machisa filed a complaint with the Media Complaints Committee (MCC) over a story carried by The Herald on 16th February 2015 headlined: “Zim NGOs abuse over $850 million”.
The complainant says allegations of fraud, corruption and embezzlement of funds levelled against ZimRights are unsubstantiated, malicious and likely to tarnish the organisation’s commitment and dedication to promote, protect and defend the rights of Zimbabwean citizens.
Mr. Machisa is aggrieved as he says the reporter did not uphold journalistic tenets through verification of facts before publication and neither did he seek comment from ZimRights National Director or the Chairperson Mr. Everson Ndlovu who are the official spokespersons of the organisation. ZimRights also states that the remarks in the article in question are misplaced as the organisation is not pursuing an anti-government agenda and neither is it being investigated by the US government as alleged.
ZimRights is therefore denying the allegations of fraud, corruption and embezzlement of funds and bad corporate governance and is requesting for a retraction and apology from The Herald.
Status: Pending
