The Zimbabwe Association of Community Radio Stations (ZACRAS) brought to the attention of the VMCZ their complaint over a story published by The Sunday Mail on 22nd October 2017 headlined, “Community Radios Explode”.
ZACRAS Chairperson raises the following issues in the complaint:
· That the headline of the article misleadingly refers to recently licensed local commercial radio stations as “community broadcasters”.
· That the substance of the article also reinforces the misleading headline through erroneous and interchangeable reference to “community radio stations” and “commercial radio” “as if they mean one and the same thing”.
· That the correct position is that currently no community radio stations have been licensed in Zimbabwe.
ZACRAS is demanding that The Sunday Mail sets the record straight by publishing an article to correct this anomaly.
