TechZim also raised a similar complaint against The Manica Post and BH24.
Status: Resolved
The Manica Post in its response indicates that there was no need for the newspaper to seek authorization from Techzim to use the online portal’s content as this was already publicly available on the internet and was duly attributed.
The MCC in its assessment of the matter upheld the complaint on the basis of section 21 of the media code of conduct which notes that the usage “… of another person’s words or ideas without permission and without proper acknowledgement and attribution …” amounts to plagiarism. While the complainants welcomed the MCC judgment, they ultimately decided to pursue the legal route as they sought financial compensation as a form of relief for what they believe is a breach to their understanding of rules pertaining to copyright.
