The VMCZ Media Complaints Committee (MCC) received a complaint from Nighet Savania over an article published by The Herald on 15th September 2016 headlined, “Mom, son in the doc”.
Savania was aggrieved, stating that:
• Herself and her son were never in court on the 14th of September 2016 as reported in the article
By virtue of her concern that she was not in court on the above-mentioned date she also queries other reported aspects in the article as follows:
• That she and her son pleaded not guilty and the magistrate remanded the matter to the following day (15 September 2016).
• That she allegedly took over her husband’s business following his death in March 2010
• That she misrepresented to the court complainant that she owned 100 shares in the business under dispute
• That the court heard that Savania kept it a secret that Norwhich Trading was part of a deceased estate
