The VMCZ Media Complaints Committee (MCC) received a complaint from Mlondolozi Ndlovu over a story published by H-Metro on 21 February 2017 headlined, “Mutuma turns to God”.
Mlondolozi Ndlovu, who is Managing Director and Deputy Editor of Match Day Zimbabwe complained that H-Metro Senior reporter Chipo Sabeta plagiarised a Match Day Zimbabwe story published on the 15th of February 2017 on football player Rodrick Mutuma. The main issue in the story is that Mutuma has started attending church at a Bulawayo Church. Ndlovu states that the story was written by their reporter Leopold Munhende under the headline “Mutuma turns to God in Bulawayo” and was plagiarised by Chipo Sabeta in the hard copy and online edition of the H-Metro under a similar headline.
The complainant also indicates that attempts to resolve the issue with H-Metro through engagements with Sabeta, the news editor and the Editor were not fruitful.
Status: Pending
The VMCZ held dialogue with H-Metro Deputy Editor Charles Mushinga and Zimpapers Editorial Executive Mr. William Chikoto who indicated that while initial engagements between the complainant and H-Metro were unfruitful, there is commitment to amicably resolve the complaint. The MCC is in the process of facilitating dialogue between the complainant and H-Metro after reviewing both articles.
