Masvingo Drama Circle Management Vs The Zimbabwean (17 January 2014)
The Media Complaints Committee received a complaint from the Masvingo Drama Circle Management against The Zimbabwean over an article headed “Zanu supporters take over theatre” published by the paper on 7 January 2014.
The Masvingo Drama Circle Management is aggrieved because it alleges the story carried by the newspaper was based on interviews that never existed between the reporter and any of their employees. The Masvingo Drama Circle Management therefore feels that the article is meant to “damage its standing” in the community and politically.
STATUS: FINALISED – The Media Complaints Committee invited both parties to a hearing on the matter. Both parties during mediation by the Media Complaints Committee reached consensus that a follow up story by The Zimbabwean highlighting current developments in the Masvingo Drama Circle would suffice as remedy given the time lapse between theinitial news story published and the filing of the media complaint.
