Jusa Kudherezera brought to the attention of the MCC his grievance over an article published by the Manica Post on 19-25 August 2016 headlined, “Tajamuka Lawsuit Against President a non-event”.
Kudherezera, who is a member of Tajamuka, raises the following points of concern in his complaint:
· He argues that the newspaper appears not to understand the rights of citizens to demand accountability from their leaders and that Tajamuka is also made up of patriotic Zimbabweans.
· He also argues that Tajamuka has a constitutional right to take the President to Court and questions the newspaper’s reference to the group as “callous” and as “law breakers”.
· That the newspaper is being unprofessional through name-calling against Tajamuka and that the story is not balanced as Tajamuka is not given an opportunity to give their side of the story.
· That the article is filled with hate and emotion against Tajamuka which condemns Tajamuka for taking the President to court yet this is one of the available civil action remedies for citizens to promote accountability on the part of the government.
