MDC-T Director for International Relations, Ambassador Hebson Makuvise, registered his complaint with the Media Complaints Committee (MCC) over an article that appeared in the Zimbabwe Independent on 5th February 2016 headlined, ‘Tsvangirai and Biti in talks’.
Ambassador Makuvise states that the article is malicious, unprofessional and unethical. He also adds contrary to what was reported in the article, he last met Tendai Biti on 16th February 2014 at Harvest House at an MDC-T meeting of district chairpersons.
The complainant also states that his involvement with the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) dates back to its inception in 1999 and therefore when he engages with any of the party’s various constituents he does so in his official capacity as the party’s Director for International Relations and not as Dr. Morgan Tsvangirai’s relative.
He therefore feels that the article was biased and opinionated so as to promote a particular view-point.

The VMCZ engaged both parties on the matter. The Zimbabwe Independent acknowledged the complaint, apologized to the complainant and clarified/corrected the issues of concern in its 26 February-3rd March 2016 edition. The complainant has indicated that he is happy with the Zimbabwe Independent’s response.
