Beyond Basics, an eye opener – Participants.

Participants of the recently held Beyond Basics training course have described the course as an eye opener and called on the VMCZ to hold more of the same. The course which was designed for mid-career journalists and aims at sharpening their reporting skills especially around feature writing and investigative reporting.

Nyasha Nyakunu (MISA-Zim, Senior Program Officer) and Dumisani Muleya (Editor of Zimbabwe Independent), programme facilitators of the two day workshop touched on a number of subjects ranging from the legal operating environment – a module that seeks to familiarise journalists with laws that govern the profession and conduct of journalists, feature writing and sources of news for features and types of features. The investigative reporting module touched on how to become a good investigative reporter and who can be an investigative reporter and what to expect, the dos and don’ts among others.

Workshop participants were awarded certificates at the end of the two day workshop and encouraged to make use of the skills obtained. The course drew participants from across the media divide.
