Reporting on Illicit Financial Flows Fellowship
The VMCZ in partnership with the Institute for the Advancement of Journalism (IAJ) is pleased to invite applications from Zimbabwean journalists for a full scholarship to attend a four-day investigative journalism Training Course on Illicit Financial Flows to be held in Johannesburg.
The dates for the training will be: 3 March 2020 – 6 March 2020.
The deadline for applications is 21 February 2020. The full scholarship will cover course fees, return airfares transportation in Johannesburg, meals and workshop logistics.
You do not need to have a financial background to apply for the training but we consider it important when selecting candidates to see evidence of investigative experience. The language of instruction for the training course is English.
WHY ATTEND?
Over four days, participants will be trained on how to investigate corporate accounts, offshore activity and corporate corruption. Participants will learn on strategies on where to find documents, how to analyse the documents and other practical tools to help uncover financial secrecy.
A combination of hands-on training and guidance from senior practitioners will give participants the basis to investigate financial corruption as well as offering the opportunity to network with other journalists and activists.
Eligibility Criteria
- Journalists working in any medium including broadcast, print and online platforms.
- Ability to travel for the full duration of the workshop.

- CV of the applicant.
- A written statement, no longer than 500 words, indicating the reason for applying and why you should be considered for this course.
- Two samples of recently published investigative work or academic papers on illicit financial investigative journalism should be submitted
